This past month, brethren from across Hawaii traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the Supreme Council Biennial Session of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A. It was a truly memorable event — one that combined historic tradition, international fellowship, and meaningful updates about the ongoing impact of Scottish Rite philanthropy.
A Gathering of Masonic Leaders from Around the World
The Biennial Session brought together Masonic leaders from 40 countries, with total attendance reaching over 800 participants — a 15% increase from the previous session. The Hawaii delegation joined their brethren in attending the public session, as well as witnessing the solemn conferral of the 33° Inspector General Honorary, one of the most distinguished recognitions in Freemasonry.
Beyond the meetings themselves, members also had the opportunity to spend time touring Washington, D.C. — a city rich with both national history and Masonic landmarks. From the House of the Temple, the Supreme Council’s headquarters, to monuments honoring the Founding Fathers, many of whom were Masons, the experience offered both education and inspiration.
Celebrating Scottish Rite Philanthropy
One of the highlights of the session was learning about the ongoing success of the RiteCare programs. With more than 170 centers nationwide, RiteCare provided life-changing support to over 145,000 children last year who faced speech, language, and learning challenges. Attendees also heard directly from one of the many college scholarship recipients, a reminder of the fraternity’s commitment to education and opportunity for young people.
Updates from the Supreme Council
The Biennial Session also provided important updates on the House of the Temple, which continues to undergo improvements to preserve and enhance this architectural and cultural treasure. Delegates learned of new programs and initiatives being launched to expand the reach and impact of Scottish Rite Freemasonry in the years ahead.
A Memorable and Productive Session
For the brethren of Hawaii, the 2025 Biennial Session was far more than just a meeting. It was a chance to connect with Masons from around the world, celebrate the conferral of honors, witness the fraternity’s charitable work in action, and explore the deep Masonic roots woven into the history of the nation’s capital.
As Scottish Rite Freemasonry looks to the future, gatherings like this remind us of our shared values of brotherhood, learning, and service. Truly, it was a productive and unforgettable event.
