The second portion of the Scottish Rite System of degrees is called The Chapter of Rose Croix. This series of degrees includes the 15° through the 18°. The Chapter of Rose Croix attempts to provide the candidate with a deeper understanding of religion, philosophy, ethics and history through a variety of complex historical degrees. The intellectual challenges presented in these degrees are numerous, and at times overwhelming and can take years to master. The Honolulu Chapter of Rose Croix was chartered on October 20, 1874, with its first Wise Master being King Kalakaua, the last king and penultimate monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.
